March 8 delayed: Women In Global Health Burkina Faso in solidarity with internally displaced women of Ziniaré

“Contribute to the war effort through support for internally displaced women in Ziniaré”. This is the overall objective of this day of solidarity and fraternity for the internally displaced women of Ziniaré desired by Women In Global Health Burkina Faso (WGH-BF) and its partners.

This support for internally displaced women took the form of various medical services, namely an offer of medical consultations and care for sick women; screenings for diabetes and high blood pressure; raising awareness about the prevention of diabetes and high blood pressure. This support also includes the delivery of 3.5 tonnes of rice, 40 cans of oil and 76 boxes of soap. The donation, estimated at more than 3 million CFA francs, also aims, according to the Coordinator of WGH Burkina Faso, Dr Marie Madeleine Rouamba, to improve the resilience of internally displaced women from the Nagréongo and surrounding sites. Dr Anne-Maryse K'HABORE, Director General (DG) of the Central Purchasing of Essential Generic Medicines (CAMEG) and patron of the ceremony, donated medicines, 300 meal kits and 2 tonnes of food to the internally displaced women. Its representative, Dr Sabine Ouédraogo/Dicko, expressed the joy and honor of the godmother as well as the structure she represents to be associated with this day.
According to the Secretary General (SG) of the region, Amidou Soré, the Central Plateau hosts more than 45,000 internally displaced people. “This donation of food, materials and medicine is welcome and will somewhat lighten the burden of our sisters,” he said on behalf of the Governor of the region. Continuing, he said he was “particularly touched by the personal involvement of donors in the detection and relief of health problems, which often aggravate the situation of our sisters”. Awa Ouédraogo, representative of the beneficiaries, expressed her gratitude. “We are happy. We say thank you, and may God bless them more,” she said. As a reminder, this day of solidarity and fraternity was also held as part of the delayed celebration of International Women's Day, celebrated on March 8 each year.

The global network of women leaders engaged in the health sector, Women In Global Health (WGH), aims to promote women's leadership and fight for gender equity in the sector. Women In Global Health Burkina Faso (WGH-BF) was created in 2021, and currently has around sixty members.
